Say hello

An essential part of copywriting involves listening to and understanding what you, as my client, need.

That's why it's important to choose a copywriter you feel comfortable with and can be sure truly understands your needs.

A quick glance at my website should tell you I'm based on the Isle of Skye and I work with creative marketing agencies and digital agencies, usually based in London, to create copy that gets results.

However, here are ten little-known facts about me that will hopefully help you get to know the person behind the pen.

I have an extensive shoe collection

I have a vast collection of Irregular Choice shoes that I've been amassing since around the age of nineteen.  Some of them have taken years to track down!

My drink of choice is Earl Grey tea

My Grandma gave me my first-ever cup of tea when I was about three.  She would let me take little sips out of her orange poppy cup and started a life-long addiction to Twinings Earl Grey.

I once won a medal for reading

When I was seven, my local library issued a reading challenge.  The "challenge" was to read three books in a week.  I was worried I wouldn't manage it and hastened to begin.  I think I finished the three books in two days, but it was rather a long time ago!  I still have the medal and certificate.

I was home-schooled

My mum taught me at home, in a little caravan.  It made the perfect designated schoolroom, with no WiFi, no phone and no distractions.

My favourite board game is Monopoly

I love the strategy involved.  I have a number of theories on the best and quickest ways to win.  Unfortunately, hardly anyone will play with me!

I love charity shops and jumble sales

Most of my extensive book collection has been amassed from charity shops.  It's amazing what you can find when you look carefully.

Without my contact lenses, everything is blurry

My eyesight started deteriorating when I was about seven but, being a vain child, I refused to wear my glasses unless I absolutely had to.  I'd pick a chair near the television, I'd tilt my head downwards and roll my eyes upwards to see better, I'd squint, I'd do anything to avoid wearing glasses in front of people.  Thank goodness contact lenses exist!

Other than writing, I've had a few different jobs...

...including cleaning a holiday cottage, making pizzas in a takeaway, working for the Co-op and being a waitress.  I wasn't particularly good at any of them and my waitress career will be best remembered as The Time I Dropped Two Cranachans On The Stairs And People Got Cross With Me.

I am an only child

As such, I went through life with a lot of false ideas because I had no one to correct me.  For example, for many years I thought the phrase "make ends meet" was "make ends meat".  I figured "ends meat" was the worst cuts of meat that you got if that was all you could afford.

My favourite film is...

...Breakfast at Tiffany's.  The older I get the more I appreciate the subtle nuances in the film, along with Audrey Hepburn's poignant portrayal of Holly Golightly.
